The Event

The Carers Gateway and Benevolent Society Community Day 2024 was a heartwarming event that brought together 2,500+ carers, families and community members in a space designed to celebrate connection and inclusivity. Guided by the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in event design, the community day aimed to create a welcoming environment for all attendees.

Sydney’s iconic Hordern Pavilion was transformed into a whimsical winter wonderland, complete with interactive stations and entertainment. Attendees enjoyed a petting farm, mindful activities like meditation, painting, drumming and chair yoga, as well as inspiring stage performances by the Sydney Street Choir and Infinite Abilities Performing Arts.

A thoughtfully curated exhibitor village provided community and information booths, offering vital support and resources for carers and their families in a warm and welcoming setting.

Accessibility was prioritised throughout the event design, featuring wide aisles, ample accessible parking, quiet zones and wheelchair ramps. Onstage AUSLAN interpreters ensured that everyone felt included and that no voice went unheard.

The Result

The event provided an uplifting platform for joy, connection, and meaningful community engagement. Families expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to partake in a range of experiences thoughtfully tailored to those with disabilities.

Feedback from carers underscored the significant impact of the inclusive design and programming, emphasising how the event fostered a true sense of belonging through diverse entertainment and activities. The dedicated ‘quiet time’ offered moments of calm and respite, enriching the overall experience.

The event was a resounding success, creating memorable experiences for all involved including our OP Event Production Team. The joyful atmosphere, filled with laughter, creativity and warmth, made the community event a cherished gathering for everyone.
